Lt. Col. Ann Meredith, the outgoing 97th Military Police Battalion commander at Fort Riley, participates in a change of command ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018. The battalion redeployed in December 2007 after 15 months to reconstitute and prepare for future requirements in support of the Global War on Terrorism. The Group provided command, control, staff planning, and coordination for military police units assigned and attached to the I and II Corps Tactical Zones. He had the rank of Specialist Four. The Guardian Battalion stands ready for when the nation calls and are prepared to fight and win– anytime, anywhere. On order, the 97th Military Police Battalion deploys worldwide to conduct Military Police operations. Served with 18th Military Police Brigade, 97th Military Police Battalion, 16th Mp Group, D Co 51st Inf. The Battalion took command and control of the 116th MP Company, 287th MP Company, 300th MP Company and 977th MP Company. The Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment deployed in October 2018 for 60 days to Texas in support The Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection Mission. Activated in Vietnam in the midst of the Vietnam War, the unit provided military police services for two corp-sized forces operating in the region. Since then, the Battalion has honorably served the country in several conflicts to include Vietnam, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and most recently, returning in July 2010, Operation Enduring Freedom. After a short time of serving in the European Theater during the end of World War II, the battalion was inactivated on 12 November 1945 in France. The 93D Military Police Battalion departed Vietnam on Dec. 20, 1971, and was deactivated on Dec. 21, 1971, at Fort Lewis, Washington. 105th Airlift Wing, New York National Guard . The Mission of this battalion is to provide military police and provost marshal type services to sub-area coordinators, tactical units, commanders without organic military police, and others as directed by the Commanding Officer, 16th Military Police Group, utilizing personnel and equipment resources assigned or attached to the 97th Military Police Battalion. The remaining military police units at Fort Riley were then reorganized into a law enforcement command, which was redesignated as the 924th Military Police Battalion in 2001.
